Korean junior badminton wins five gold medals at Thailand U-19 Championships

The Korean junior badminton team swept the Under-19 (U-19) individual events at the Thailand 2023 Junior Championships.

The team swept all five gold medals in the U-19 category in the final day of competition on Tuesday (June 10) in Pathum Thani, Thailand.

Lee Sun-jin (Gwangmyeong Buk High School) defeated Cho Hyun-woo (Seoul Chego) 2-1 (18-21 21-18 21-15) in the boys’ singles final, while Kim Min-sun (Chiaak High School) defeated Thailand’s Sarunrak Vithidsarn 2-1 (20-22 21-14 22-20) in the girls’ singles final.

In the men’s doubles final, Lee Sun-jin and Lee Jong-min (Gwangmyeong North High School) defeated Park Gun-hoo and Yoon Ho-sung (Seoul Cheego) 2-1 (17-21 21-10 21-19), while Kim Min-sun and Yeon Seo-yeon (Hwasun High School) defeated Kim Do-yeon and Kim Mi-joo (Daesung Girls High School) 2-0 (21-8 21-19).

Lee Jong-min and Yeon Seo-yeon also teamed up to win the mixed doubles title, joining Lee Sun-jin and Kim Min-sun as the tournament’s two-time champions.

Kim Min-seung (Jeon Daedaebu High School) and Lee Hyung-woo (Gwangmyeong Buk High School) won gold in the U-17 boys’ doubles, Kim Seung-joo (Jeonggok, Seoul) and Park Jun-su (Daebang, Changwon) in the U-13 boys’ doubles, and Choi Jung (Ahyeon, Seoul) and Kang Jung-won (Wanwol) in the mixed doubles.
