South Korea’s Park Ji-young took a one-shot lead on the first day of the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour’s KG Ladies Open (800 million won ($144 million) in prize money).
Park carded one eagle and five birdies with no bogeys for a 7-under 65 in the first round of the tournament at the par-72 Sunny Point Country Club in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, on Tuesday.
Park, who won last week’s major, the Hanwha Classic, topped the leaderboard on the day, giving her a boost in her quest for her second straight win and fourth of the season.
“It felt good to make eagle on the first hole, and the good momentum translated into a satisfying performance,” Park said afterward, ”I played my game as I had practiced, slowing down the tempo, and it worked out well.”
“My biggest challenge is to control the tempo so that it doesn’t get too fast,” she said, adding, ”If I can control the tempo as I want, 토토사이트 I will be aggressive with the confidence that I can win my fourth win of the season.”
One shot behind Park is Soo Ji Kim, who is tied for second place (6-under 66) with Li Xueying (CHN).
Kim will be looking for her first win of the season.
“Overall, I hit my shots well, especially my second shots within 100 meters,” Kim said, ”I think the course is more difficult than last year, but I’m still happy to finish with a good score.”
As for the rest of the round, he added: “The things I’ve been working on are starting to pay off. It will depend on the pin position, but I will continue to play aggressively like I did today.”
Lee Ye Won Lee and Park Hyun Kyung, both three-time winners on the season who are in contention with Park for the title of Most Valuable Player, Grand Prize, and money, are tied for fourth (5-under 67) and tied for 12th (4-under 68), respectively.
