The England Football Association today announced a 33-man preliminary squad for Euro 2024. Head coach Gareth Southgate will select 26 of them to travel to Germany. Southgate’s final squad will face Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland on June 4 and 8, respectively, after the tournament. England will face Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia in the Euro 2024 main draw.
The biggest storyline of the preliminary roster is the omission of Manchester United’s all-round striker Marcus Rashford, who has been a key part of England’s attack in recent major tournaments. Rashford, who boasts 17 goals in 60 appearances for the Red Devils, was thought to be a shoo-in for the squad after a disastrous run of form this season, scoring just eight goals in 42 games across all competitions. In fact, Southgate even dropped him from the training squad.
Dyer’s exclusion is also notable. Dyer was a long shot to make the England squad for the first half of the season. He was completely out of favor at his former club Tottenham Hotspur and struggled to make the bench, let alone the starting lineup.
