Badminton player Ahn Se-young (21-Samsung Life) overcame an injury setback to become the first South Korean player in 29 years to win the women’s singles title at the Asian Games. The world No. 1 defeated world No. 3 Chen Yufei (CHN) 2-1 (21-18 17-21 21-8) in the women’s badminton singles final at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games on Sunday at Binjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China .It was only the second time a South Korean athlete has won the women’s singles title at an Asian Games and the first in 29 years since Hwang Soo-hyun won gold at the 1994 Hiroshima Games .It is also the second feat in history for both men and women, as there has never been a men’s singles gold medal. Ahn made it two gold medals in the women’s team event. This gives Korea Badminton its second gold medal of the tournament after the women’s team event.
