The Korean athletics team competing at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Tuesday pledged their resolve at a departure ceremony at the Champion House at the Jincheon National Athletes’ Village in North Chungcheong Province. Led by Baek Ok-ja, vice president of the Korean Athletics Federation and a gold medallist in the women’s shot put at the 1970 Bangkok and 1974 Tehran Asian Games, the Korean athletics team for the Hangzhou Asian Games consists of 45 athletes and 15 officials .Korean athletes will compete in 34 of the 48 athletics events, with gold medals expected from Woo Sang-hyuk (Yongin City Hall) in the men’s high jump .They are also hoping for silver in the women’s marathon with Choi Kyung-sun (Jecheon City Hall) and Jung Da-eun (K-water), bronze in the men’s marathon with Park Min-ho (Kolon) and Shim Jong-seop (KEPCO), a bronze medal for the men’s 400 metres relay team that won its first medal in 38 years at the Asian Athletics Championships last month, and a bronze for Jung Jung-sun (Ansan City Hall) in the women’s shot put, who finished fourth at the Asian Championships. “You have been training hard and sweating for a long time, and I wish you all the best to win medals and set new records at the Hangzhou Asian Games,” said Yuk Hyun-pyo, president of the Korean Athletics Federation, who presented the athletes with a cheque for $10 million.
